Plot

The film revolves around the life and struggle of a cancer survivor. Arjun Mallik is a famous radio jockey. His listeners are fond of his voice. His wife, Pritha is also a voice artist. During an award ceremony, he receives the ‘voice of the year’ award and is called upon stage to give a speech. Arjun finds difficulty in speaking and the host of the award declares he is ‘choked with emotion’. That night, he, his wife and their friends have a house party and they jointly sing a song, during the end of which Arjun goes to the bathroom and coughs out blood and decides to make an appointment with doctor. Doctor says that he needs to undergo a CT scan and is diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer. The Doctor says he can be survived only at the cost of his voice box. He decides he is worthless alive without his voice box and it better if he dies. Pritha and his friends convince him that his family would be ruined if he dies. At that time, Arjun’s son comes from school and says that he has come first in his school. Arjun, both ruined and happy, cries and Pritha starts crying heavily followed by her friends. Arjun has an habit of reciting stories to his son before his son sleeps. Before the day of surgery, Arjun finds it extremely difficult to speak and his son insists not to carry on with the story telling. He walks to entrance of their house, only to find his wife sitting there alone. He sits beside her and she demands that he talks to her the whole night, knowing she will never hear his voice again. He somehow manages to speak and says that he can and will not be able to speak any more. Next day he undergoes surgery and the doctor declares it a successful operation and they are happy that the cancer stayed attached to his voice and did not spread to his thyroid gland. He is given a board and a marker to write and when a nurse asks how he feels, he writes ‘speechless’. After he comes home, he finds Pishima has laid across leaves on his bed so that he can get well, unaware of the fact that his voice box is gone forever. He finds life extremely difficult. To speak, he meets a speech therapist, Romilla, who is about to leave for Dhaka but postpones her ticket to heal her last patient in India. Over the course of his therapy, Romila gives him daunting challenges to make him use his own voice rather than relying on signs and writings. He gives his first slang in his new voice during a heated conversation with a taxi driver. He learns to speak with Oesophageal voice. He can not speak but improvises himself. This is the story of struggle of a cancer patient and his undaunted human spirit. He then takes up the job of a RJ with Laryngeal cancer and the show is a success.
